Like comets, we fall toward the light, leaving in our wake the detritus of our days, the map and the journal of our life's voyage out of ourselves, away and beyond the edge of being.
These constructions are assembled from objects, both shaped and found, associated with particular places in time. They are as much diary entries as formal statements.
Objects lost, abandoned and forgotten find new significance and causality in the context of a contrived artifact. In the end, nothing is lost, but everything is changed. As we make our way, we are shaped by the journey.
John Rood said, "To work is to pray." I experience my own work as a kind of prayer.
The pieces in the "Lift" series were conceived as meditations on a New Testament text- John 12:32.
